Afghanistan offers important lessons for writers

Most of us entertain the thought of running away from home growing up. We would have left the spanking, scolding and lectures from our parents gave us generously. However, after we finally started and left our own homes, with wallpapers Nice, dishwasher and efficient company in the last electronic gadgets, it still lacks the houses we have been brought in.

In his book, Homesick in Heaven, Oliver Holmes wrote: "Where we love is home, home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts. "Like Holmes, Arabic writer Khaled Hosseini, the latest sensation in the New York Times bestseller, realizes you can never really leave the house. In splendid thousand suns, Khaled Hosseini Stark Raving is nostalgic. Although now living comfortably in San Jose, California, he returned to the dusty streets of Kabul with a pen tears.

He can not shake the images of women clad in burqas walk quietly Afghan in the dusty streets of Kabul. Women, who for years have been subjected to all sorts of violations from rape to forced marriage. They were kidnapped, sold into prostitution and reduced to pieces of bread and war booty.

The Taliban restricted the freedom of movement of women, work and education. And of course, later, the Americans dropped bombs and smashed their heads.

With tears in his eyes, remembers that Hosseini: "In the spring of 2003, I went to Kabul, and I remember seeing these burqa clad women sitting at street corners, with four, five, six children, begging for change. I remember seeing them walking down the street two by two, followed by their children in rags, and asked how life had brought them to this point.

Forced by these situations, Hosseini wrote the stunning and heartbreaking story of Laila and Mariam. He said: "When I started writing my book, I found myself thinking about the women of Afghanistan more resilient and more. "Although no single woman I met in Kabul inspired Laila or Mariam, their voices and faces and incredible stories of survival were always with me, and a good part of my inspiration for this novel came from their collective spirit. "

Khaled Hosseini may be a good inspiration for many younger writers from Kenya, because its history is unlikely success in the mysterious world of publishing. Born in Afghanistan, of all places, the dream of becoming not only a writer, but putting Featured in The New York Times Best-Seller list was a remote control.

Like many aspiring writers from Kenya, Mr. Hosseini began in total darkness, nobody knew and nobody cared. It probably was not sure that any player in the world would be interested in by reading a novel about characters Afghanistan. This, however, did not discourage him.

And therein lies one of the largest lessons for any writer, be a great novelist or a chronicler as your servant. Do not throw in the towel. No matter how many times you not published, keep writing. After some time, with much learning, you know even gut-feeling kind of books as publishers and other releases, you train around hate.

Another secret of the meteoric rise Hosseini is that even as a child, he was an avid reader.

Those who want to become good writers to read. They should read not only the good works of literature but also the not-so-good and genres. Being able to distinguish a good story of a bad, with all our different tastes notwithstanding, is good for an aspiring writer. This could help avoid write a novel that he only enjoys (and wondered why no action other person in the enthusiasm!)

Thank you to the voracious reading Hosseini's poetry, he found the book a seventeenth-century Persian poet Saib-e-Tabrizi, who once wrote in Kabul during a Another time when he was quiet and tranquil,

Ah How beautiful is Kabul encircled by her arid mountains …

All Street Kabul is enthralling to the eye
In the bazaars, caravans of Egypt pass
You could not count the moons that shine on his roof
And the thousand splendid suns hiding behind walls

Among Hosseini title suggests, "I was looking for English translations of poems about Kabul, for use in a scene where a character complains to leave his beloved city, when I found this particular verse. I realized I found not only the straight line of the scene, but also an evocative title of "splendid thousand suns". "

How many such titles, and many good things have not been captured by the writers of Kenya because they do not read and research this other writers, past and present, have written?

We can say that the greatest secret of success in stunning Hosseini A Thousand Splendid Suns "is embracing a style and characters of his own. More than one writer of today seeks to be a john grisham Sidney Sheldon, danielle steele or Chinua Achebe. Therefore, their stories and their characters with a hollow ring inexplicable lack of grasp and reach their unique own.

Hosseini was in Kabul, and creates his own characters and voices, emotions and words that are unforgettable story and the type of class world.

Writers should not be imitators, they are great originals whose voices we must hear clearly without hearing echoes of other authors as they give birth.
