the prisoner tv series
On the series "Lost" does anyone think that the island is a prison to keep the MIB a prisoner?

I thought Jacob is the guardian and the MIB is only prisoner. If you are thinking about the best island prisons. Is that logical? Dobby, do you think the boy with hands full of blood is an evocation of the story of Cain and Abel? Do you think that the MIB would be Cain?

I think that's an interesting theory. I do not know if I'm on board, but I recognize it as a possibility. It certainly makes sense. I think they may be related to a blood some way. I also think they may closely resemble that story of Cain and Abel. They seem to be diametrically opposed, as those biblical characters, and Lost is not new to biblical allusions. Also, why is everyone so sure that Jacob is good? Before we met Jacob, the idea of it never struck me as kind. He is very willing to sacrifice innocent people to the island, and often do not meet his disciples. I'm not saying that Smokey Ol 'is good, but we all may be poorly written off Jacob as a good guy.

The Special Prisoner

The Special Prisoner

BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Jim Lehrer’s Tension City . Following the enormous success of his two bestselling previous novels, White Widow and Purple Dots, Jim Lehrer takes on a new and controversial subject in this ambitious story about an Ameri-can soldier who, many years after the fact, is forced to relive his harrowing experience in the Second World War.          The Special Prisoner takes its title from the designation the Japanese government gave U.S. airmen held prisoner during World War II–an indication of the severity with which these foreign devils responsible for bombing Japanese cities were to be treated. John Quincy Watson was a skilled young pilot flying B-29s over Japan when he was shot down and taken prisoner in 1945. Fifty years later, now a prominent religious figure nearing retirement, Bishop Watson believes he has long since overcome the excruciating memories of his months as a POW. But a chance sighting of the now equally elderly Japanese officer who repeatedly tortured him instantly transports the Bishop back to that unendurable time, and he finds himself overwhelmed by an un-controllable desire for vengeance. The result for Watson is both a vivid return to the horrors of his past and the triggering of a new series of events that are also horrific–and tragic.         Engaging and emotionally poignant, The Special Prisoner delves into the complicated issue of war guilt and forgiveness, starkly portrayed in the characters of an officer from a country that refuses to admit any wrongdoing and a clergyman who is committed to a belief that to forgive is divine. This is new and controversial territory for Lehrer, and he treats it with passion and respect, while writing in the highly readable, engaging style that is his trademark. This fascinating story of what’s fair in war–and what’s fair afterward–is a dramatic new novel from the veteran Washington author and newscaster.

Includes a preview of the new novel in the Outlander series. London, 1760. For Jamie Fraser, paroled prisoner-of-war in the remote Lake District, life could be worse: He’s not cutting sugar cane in the West Indies, and he’s close enough to the son he cannot claim as his own. But Jamie Fraser’s quiet existence is coming apart at the seams, interrupted first by dreams of his lost wife, then by the appearance of Tobias Quinn, an erstwhile comrade from the Rising.   Like many of the Jacobites who aren’t dead or in prison, Quinn still lives and breathes for the Cause. His latest plan involves an ancient relic that will rally the Irish. Jamie is having none of it—he’s sworn off politics, fighting, and war. Until Lord John Grey shows up with a summons that will take him away from everything he loves—again.   Lord John Grey—aristocrat, soldier, and occasional spy—finds himself in possession of a packet of explosive documents that exposes a damning case of corruption against a British officer. But they also hint at a more insidious danger. Time is of the essence as the investigation leads to Ireland, with a baffling message left in “Erse,” the tongue favored by Scottish Highlanders. Lord John, who oversaw Jacobite prisoners when he was governor of Ardsmiur prison, thinks Jamie may be able to translate—but will he agree to do it?   Soon Lord John and Jamie are unwilling companions on the road to Ireland, a country whose dark castles hold dreadful secrets, and whose bogs hide the bones of the dead. A captivating return to the world Diana Gabaldon created in her Outlander and Lord John series, The Scottish Prisoner is another masterpiece of epic history, wicked deceit, and scores that can only be settled in blood. Denise Hamilton, hailed by the Chicago Sun-Times as “one of the brightest new stars in the mystery world,” delivers a riveting new novel in her critically acclaimed series featuring her uniquely appealing heroine — sassy, street-smart Los Angeles Times reporter Eve Diamond. Set in L.A.’s vibrant Russian immigrant community, where new money and raw power collide with hidden agendas left over from the Cold War, Prisoner of Memory confirms Hamilton’s reputation as one of the most astute writers of engrossing, atmospheric crime fiction, illuminating the social realities of contemporary Los Angeles. While investigating the sighting of a mountain lion in L.A.’s Griffith Park, Eve comes across the body of a teenage boy who has been shot to death execution-style. The son of a Russian émigré scientist, the victim was an exemplary student with no ties to gangs or drugs. Was his murder a random act of violence, the result of a teenage love triangle, or the work of the Russian Mafia? Eve, also the child of Russian immigrants, feels an instant rapport with the boy’s grief-stricken father, Sasha Lukin, a cultured old-world gentleman who she senses is not telling her all he knows about his son’s murder. Forced to partner on the story with her newsroom rival, police reporter Josh Brandywine, whose interest in her turns disconcertingly personal, Eve uncovers connections between the victim’s family and a fascinating, chameleon-like FBI agent and a brutal Russian mobster who warns Eve not to pry into the teenager’s death. Complicating Eve’s pursuit of the story is the arrival at her door of a young Russian man who claims to be her long-lost cousin. Is he truly a link to the family she thought she’d lost or an impostor sent by the Russian mob to spy on her? As the violence surrounding the Lukin family escalates to encompass Eve, and as she moves closer to unraveling the motives of a brilliant, vengeful killer, Prisoner of Memory races to a thrilling resolution that holds surprising personal revelations about Eve herself.
