Villa-Lobos: Bachianas Brasileiras (Complete) $14.54 This is a three-CD set that includes all of Villa-Lobos’ moody Bachianas Brasileiras. The best known is the fifth, for soprano and eight cellos (well performed here), but there is a wealth hidden among the others. There are dance movements galore; the second builds to a wonderfully percussive and powerful final movement; the eighth, despite an upbeat old folk dance as its centerpiece, has a melan… |

The Sopranos – The Complete Second Season [VHS] $5.00 In its second season, The Sopranos sustains the edgy intelligence and unpredictable, genre-warping narrative momentum that made this modern mob saga the most critically acclaimed series of the late 1990s. Creator-producer David Chase repeatedly defies formula to let the narrative turn as a direct consequence of the characters’ behavior, letting everyone in this rogue’s gallery of Mafiosi, friends,… |

The Sopranos – The Complete First Season [VHS] $9.97 The Sopranos, writer-producer-director David Chase’s extraordinary television series, is nominally an urban gangster drama, but its true impact strikes closer to home: Like 1999’s other screen touchstone, American Beauty, the hbo series chronicles a dysfunctional, suburban American family in bold relief. And for protagonist Tony Soprano, there’s the added complexity posed by heading twin families,… |

The Sopranos – The Complete Third Season [VHS] $14.95 “So,” Tony Soprano asks analyst Dr. Melfi in the wake of not-so-dearly-departed Livia’s death, “we’re probably done here, right?” Sorry, Tone, not by a long shot. Unresolved mother issues are the least of the Family man’s troubles in the brutal and controversial third season of The Sopranos. Ranked by TV Guide among the top five greatest series ever, The Sopranos justified its eleven-month hi… |

The Sopranos: The Complete Fifth Season $19.94 Facing an indeterminate sentence of weeks/months/years until new episodes, fans of The Sopranos are advised to take the fifth; season, that is. At this point, superlatives don’t do The Sopranos justice, but justice was at last served to this benchmark series. James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano in a not-so-nice mood For the first time, The Sopranos rubbed out The West Wing to take ho… |

The Sopranos: The Complete Fourth Season $18.15 Carmela to Tony: “Everything comes to an end.” True enough, Mrs. Sope, but on The Sopranos, the end comes sooner for some than others. Though for some the widely debated fourth season contained too much yakking instead of whacking, and an emphasis on domestic family over business Family, what critic James Agee once said of the Marx Brothers applies to The Sopranos: “The worst thing they might ever… |

Reading the Sopranos $23 Bada bing! What drama. "The most important work of American popular culture in fifty years" is how the "New York Times" describes "The Sopranos". Critically-acclaimed, award-winning, and the most watched show on HBO, the mobster drama swirls around the middle-aged Mafioso, Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini). Having to negotiate two families, both at home and at work, is it any wonder he is suffering an epic midlife crisis involving Prozac and visits to a therapist? The series quickly became compulsory watching when it first screened back in 1999 and has since gone on to become an international hit and subject of intense discussion. Coinciding with the sixth and penultimate series, "Reading The Sopranos" offers a timely response to one of the most talked about shows on television. This book explores how "The Sopranos" has rewritten the rules of television drama and changed attitudes about television itself. Contributors present fresh perspectives on psychotherapy and dreams; racism and the Italian-American community; Carmela and post-feminism; "The Sopranos" as an HBO brand; racism; the full cast of 'gangsters Italianate' that people Sopranos' New Jersey; and much more.Reading "The Sopranos" also features a timeline, character list and complete episode guide, as well as editor David Lavery's up to date 'Intertextual Moments and Allusions on The Sopranos'. |
