How can I fix a DVD?

I have some DVD discs will not play, the error message I get on screen shows "incorrect disk" I confess and used a doctor on the DVD and DVD does not help at all. How do I fix these discs dvd because they are part of a box set of 8 in a series and its not like i can go out and buy only specific disks dvd .. will be the "skins" I've heard of work, and if so, how and what they are ..? ideas, I'd appreciate one of you genius' help … thank you in advance for taking your time to look at the course.
