Ripping my DVDs (175MB)?

Hello, I decided to start the extraction and archiving my DVD because I have a few rare titles I want to save and grow on my archos … When I downloaded some things in the past (the episodes of The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. ..) I found the video quality has always been the place and all the episodes seem to be about 175 MB file size. I think the episodes are encoded to Xvid if that helps … I tried to use DVD Ripper and Xillisoft used Divx / Xvid profiles and all my tears appear to be grainy quality and inconsistently over the size of files … Plus they take hours to extract (my pc spec is high). Does anyone know what ripping software is used to make these particular tears, or nobody knows the profile specifications that I should use when using a DVD ripper generic?? hope someone can help, thanks in advance.
