mystery fiction books
Wich are some of the best fiction, mystery books of all times?

No spoilers please, just a brief explanation of why.

“…and then there were None” by agatha christie This is one of the classic mystery novels. Ten people are all invited to stay on an island and one by one their mysterious host kills them. It’s one of the best mysteries/thrillers of all time. It was extremely influential in the realm of mysteries.

Basically any book by agatha christie. She’s the rightly nicknamed Queen of Mystery Novels. I’m not sure if that’s an official thing that other people call her, but it should be. She wrote the some of the best mystery novels of her time and many have lasted long and are still good by the standards of novels today.

Nero Wolfe, he’s great too. Oh wait, that’s the character name, you would probably prefer the author’s name. That is Rex Stout. Please forgive the mistake, I’m exhausted, which will become more clear as this entry becomes less and less …I’m sure there’s a word that means “easy to follow” but I can’t think of it at the moment and want to use the word “cognizant” which is COMPLETELY WRONG. However, the choice of reading Rex Stout novels is not completely wrong and is instead a really good choice as he was brilliant. Nero Wolfe is an eccentric overweight consulting detective that lives entirely in his house which he never leaves and has an assistant who does all the leg work of investigating for him. It’s like if Sherlock Holmes never left Baker Street, or Monk never left his house(which is what is wrong with his brother Ambrose).
Oh, right: Sherlock Holmes. His are the most famous of mysteries aren’t they? And rightly so, they’re fantastic. You can never go wrong with Holmes really.

Jasper Fforde writes mysteries… sort of. His books are not really mysteries, but they’re not really any single genre, they cross genres and skewer the concept of story and what can or can’t be part of one. Really, this is just a suggestion to read some of Jasper Fforde, he’s great. Specifically the NCD(Nursery Crimes Divion) series of books “The Big Over Easy”(Humpty Dumpty: Accident? Suicide? Murder?) and “The Fourth Bear” actually ARE mysteries, though the characters are often characters from nursery rhymes, so it’s weird and awesome. Seriously, I am in awe of the writing skill of Jasper Fforde.

OK, it’s far too late for me to still be writing and be comprehensible… COMPREHENSIBLE! That’s the word I couldn’t think of earlier! That’s it! OK, so obviously I can’t be that so I will leave it there. I hope you consider some of these suggestions, even if they were made by someone who is completely off his rocker from exhaustion.

Love it or loathe it, David Cronenberg’s 1983 horror film Videodrome is a movie to be reckoned with. Inviting extremes of response from disdain (critic Roger Ebert called it “one of the least entertaining films ever made”) to academic euphoria, it’s the kind of film that is simultaneously sickening and seemingly devoid of humanity, but also blessed with provocative ideas and a compelling subtext o…

Back when I was a kid growing up in South Chicago, I never dreamed that having a Lebanese father and a Syrian mother would turn out to be an asset. But my ancestry paid off big-time when I sat down across from Timothy Fisher at a San Francisco sidewalk cafe on that warm September morning. He bought my cover as a Mid-East terroristhook, line and sinker. Of course, being an FBI agent, I’d been provided with excellent cover. Even so, he was nervous and kept looking around at our neighbors, the only ones at the time being a young couple who, hands across their table, were obviously and hopelessly in love. I’ve got the money, I told him, assuming that might help to calm him down. It didn’t. He kept scanning the street. I’m not interested, he said. And that surprised me. What he said next surprised me even more Over 50! mystery short stories by John Broussard, a prolific and compelling writer.
