Computer DVD Player help?

I recently had to put my computer to factory settings, ie when I had the right to the computer box. When I had my laptop, I could watch DVDs on it, and now I can not. I tried downloading the VLC player and it wont let me see my DVDs, I also tried to play on Windows Media Player, Quicktime, and nothing. Is there anything I can do? I prefer not to spend money on downloading a player, for how I'm going to buy a new hard drive soon.

If you reset the factory settings, it must do what he did at first. I have a laptop and has a manufacturer's configuration and there were three options to help restore the original software on the laptop hard drive. Among the Only 3 options would restore the factory settings, the other two help you restore things to build the plant. The problem with factory rebuild is that erases all your files. If you have things there that you want to keep, you should save this stuff up! If your plant restoration does not do (wipe and erase the entire hard drive), then restore factory settings from the CD, you can not be sure it restored to factory settings!
