The medieval murderers – historical anthologies thriller
The Medieval Murderers
The murderers are Medievil series four books written in anthologies by a group of historical crime novelists.
Created by Michael Jecks, author of Mysteries of the Temple, the group consists a number of popular authors of historical crime (including Michael Jecks, Susanna Gregory, Bernard Knight, Ian Morson, Philip Gooden, and Simon Beaufort) that each have to write about detectives in different historical periods. The idea behind the books Medievil murderers is that they follow a single element or an artifact in time, and detectives to solve crimes that occur around them. Because the books are called the killings medieval, it is not surprising that these crimes are usually murdered.
The books each contain a collection of short stories which autonomous, without introducing historical characters they may not have heard of to provide additional equipment for the characters they have. In addition, there is a story of leadership, describing the origin of the artifact, and a short ending modern day.
The Tainted Relic covers a strip of wood originally believed to be part of the cross. Cursed to kill anyone who touches it passes through the ages surrounded by chaos and murder. Its value is such that men kill to possess it, but the man who has always dies, which makes the final fate of the wick in the afterword bitterly ironic.
Sword of Shame, the second book, again, an artifact, this time a sword that was designed to defeat the invaders Great Britain, but which still bears a terrible curse. Sword of Shame suffers a bit because his pride is too close to the first books.
In House of Shadows, the question is a cursed place. A cursed monastery after the death of a young monk is then followed by years of misery and death within its walls. Land, diet and intrigue abound, and each time the detectives must unravel the tangle of his past.
The Lost Prophecies focuses on a book of prophecies stranded in Ireland. One of the best in the series, detectives solve murders around the book – because who would not kill to know the future?
As an introduction to historical thrillers, they are useful, especially if you want to try several authors both before settling on a single series. Also fans can appreciate an author to see their favorite sleuths efficiently guest star in a novel more.
There is a presumption of creating a series, and outside of Sword of Shame, which is the weakest entry in the series, all books are solid reads. By the fourth book, the authors have managed to take all their styles and their sections individually monitored and more effectively.
In short, for a fan of historical crime, one of these worth picking up. If you like, try the others.
