How does King Lear abuse power?
The title of my question is pretty straight forward.
How does King Lear abuse power in the book?
In the play?
King Lear abuses his power by giving it away, and to the wrong people.
He denies the one daughter, Cordelia (sp.), who actually loves him and turns her out, a further abuse of power.
He sets his men on a chase for war uncalled for and unneeded, done just to please these ‘wrong people’ he pretty much gave his kingdom to, mainly his other two daughters and their husbands.
King Lear finally comes to what senses he’d left behind, but not after a fine tragic and also somewhat comic play takes place.
It’s a good one.

Symphony 1 / King Lear Ouverture $16.98 Uuno Klami (1900-1961) is probably the most significant composer to come out of Finland after Jean Sibelius. His music does occasionally partake of some of Sibelius’s moody atmospherics, but Klami also has absorbed quite a lot from Debussy. His Symphony 1, composed in 1937-38, is more classically structured than any symphony by Sibelius and he relies on unusual chord arrangements that nonethele… |
