favorite illustrated children’s book unknown-please help!?
There was a childrens book probably published around the early 60’s. It was one of my favorite books or stories but all I specifically remember about it is one illustration–
It had a child bear or some other kind of animal character (not human and not “little bear”) who was standing on the landing of a stairwell with a candlestick in his hand. I believe he came out of his room during the night because some noise scared him out of his bed and he was investigating.
Behind him on the landing was a window and outside the window there was the moon with a face, and a scraggley tree. Sitting on a branch of the tree was an owl with big huge eyes looking in at the window–
It was probably a book with some lesson about not being afraid of the dark and the mysterious, but I just dont remember anything else. I am desperate to find out some info about this book– thanks!
Your description is perfect, I remember that but the only books that come to mind are The Bernstein Bears.
