Reading Deadwood $19.95 Apart from its brilliance as television, it's amazing what "Deadwood" gets away with. This acclaimed series from hbo, which premiered in 2004, is set in the teeming outlaw camp of 'Deadwood'. It has been described by "Variety" as 'a vulgar, gritty, at times downright nasty take on the Old West brimming with all the dark genius that series creator and sceenwriter extraordinaire David Milch has at his fingertips'. All this and more. The international cast of authoritative contributors assess "Deadwood's" many facets: its profane language, its characters, from Al Swearengen (who lives up to his name) and Calamity Jane, to B.B. Farnham and Mr. Wu, its place in the western genre, "Deadwood" and serial fiction, prostitution, the making of American civil society, "Deadwood's" Chinese, the opening credits, Reverend Smith and much more. Episode and character guides complete the book – the "Deadwood" companion for fans and students to swear by. |

Tom Crean’s Six Plays from the box set (DVD) $39.99 With Tom Crean,Indiana University Head Coach;former Marquette University Head Coach;2x Conference USA Coach of the Year; 2003 NCAA Final Four Coach Crean takes the box set series and breaks it down into parts. The box set can confuse the defense by running different action out of the same set. The first box set places two perimeter players at the elbows and flows into a ball side triangle. The flare screen and post feed “split” action creates several problems for the defense. The goal of these plays is to reverse the ball and force one defender to guard two offensive players on the weak side. Box #2 places a shooter on the left block and is a good late 3-point shot. Box #3 is a misdirection play with ball screens. Spacing out on the perimeter allows the cross screen action and the screen the screener action to materialize. Box #4 is perfect for a lay up coming out of a time out. Refusal of the ball screen creates penetration and dish possibilities or a lay up. The flare screen in Box #5 sets up a hard back screen on the post, sending him to the open block area for post position. The last option is a double screen for your post player for a jump shot. The final box play creates an isolation for a guard, a double screen for a shooter and an over-the-top chest cut. 2007. |

The Real Deadwood $11.99 Supported by strong ratings and a rich history, The Real Deadwood provides background and historical accuracy for the figures depicted on the hit HBO series, and takes a broader look at the times that spawned them. Covering law and order, politics, journalism, and early medicine, and examining some “historical guest stars” who may play a factor in future Deadwood episodes (Teddy Roosevelt was an acquaintance of series protagonist Seth Bullock and made several visits to the lawless town; Bullock turned away Wyatt Earp when he offered his services as a lawman)- The Real Deadwood will allow readers to traverse the unpaved streets of an outlaw town without ever getting their boots dirty. |
