Speaking to persuade by Dr. Leroy Brown – book review
When it comes to learning to make a speech, the content of speech is usually taught separately from physical delivery.
contemporary masters of speech training as Dr. Leroy Brown, combine the two elements of the physical delivery with the presentation of content of speech. Therefore, what is said and how it says are of equal importance.
As a successful playwright, Dr. Brown has combined the art of teaching drama with pubic speaking adults. When I was a schoolboy, he enjoyed the lessons and I remember most are those in which teachers use humor and fun activities such as aid to teaching the lessons. I think this is why this book attracted me.
The title of each chapter is preparing our curiosity. The content of the chapter examine the potential problems, and Dr. Brown tells us easy to use solutions. <p>
Here are three examples: –
1. A man in a tree. Dr. Brown shows how to use the agenda as a revelation for a speech. He explains how fairy dress with a little twist at the end that would allow him to carry out their audiences attention.
2. So What? Or "What, what?" stories. Here, Dr. Brown shows how to select stories stimutating from our own experiences, newspapers, local news and even biographies. Are used as examples or comparisons to illustrate a fact or the primary goal of the speech.
3. Cinerama speak. In this case, Dr. Brown explains how the speaker can use the visual language to print images audiences in mind.
Also at the end of each chapter for practice tutorial. Here are three examples: –
1. Exercises suggested: – Sit at a table and link this incident to an imaginary or a real friend sitting in front of you. Do not read the newspaper or try to memorize words. Do not use notes. Just talk about the ideas in a natural, conversational tone.
2. Questions and Projects: – Read aloud stories more effective threes. Discuss with the audience ways to make the story even more attractive.
3. Speech Exercises: – Drilling alone or with other students just before an audience do the following exercises: – a. With an imaginary ax, chopping wood while the audience called, "The wood, wood, wood! "Repeat.
As you can see this book is not like the usual dry textbook associated with public speaking tutorials. The Basics requirements are covered, but the use of Dr. Brown of humor and human interest, makes this textbook an easy and enjoyable to use.

Beyond Textbooks $32 Technology is a key driver of educational innovation, and a variety of programmes focusing on investment in infrastructure, equipment, in-service training and digital learning resources have been established to promote its usage in primary and secondary schools. So far, little comparative analytical attention has been devoted to understanding how digital resources improve the quality of learning and to assessing the public policies that support their development and use, and the role played by other stakeholders like publishers, broadcasting companies and increasingly user communities. This publication aims to fill that gap by both reviewing and evaluating the process of systemic innovation. Drawing on case studies from five Nordic countries, the report assembles information on the knowledge bases and policy actors which impact each phase of this innovation process and the main factors which influence its success including governance, financing and user involvement. |
