book review: a trial of one of Mary E. Martin
An author who sets out to write a trilogy, that is, the less ambitious, to maintain character major in three books requires some very complex plot manipulations. Mary Martin has succeeded in a big way. According to a close the Osgoode Trilogy. In a book we meet our intrepid, yet unlikely hero Harry Jenkins, a very average lawyer, practicing in a law firm very small and very bland. When his partner dies suddenly he is the captain of the ship, but where is the boat going? Now work is theirs to make.
Travel Final Paradox continues the saga of Harry, discovers that a huge fraud was perpetrated years ago, millions of dollars disappeared into a scam of medical research, and their largest customers Norma Dinnick exhibiting Tell Tale Signs of dementia Harry confused. Is it a victim of fraud, or a partner in crime?
In a trial of a of these mysteries, and there are several interwoven and cleverly executed plot twists, all gradually come together. Our hero Harry is once again caught in the needs of its customers. Dinnick Standard has been incarcerated in a mental institution having been found not guilty by insanity due to the onset of Alzheimer's for murder. On her travels she rarely speaks of lucidity in a huge fortune that rightly belongs to it. Harry not only acting as your attorney, legal guardian but feels compelled to investigate. The own fortunes seems real, but it is ill-gotten gains of fraud, or money to be won fairly? A shell company called raised more than $ Elixacorp $ 30 million, but where is the money now?
Although all the original players in the fraud scheme are dead, a man he still has a driving interest in the spoils, Dr. Robert Hawke. Is the genius doctor, or a crazy maniac? That is the question we face. Not Harry will need long to realize that Dr. Hawke is a dangerous adversary. Dr. Hawke is investigating a new drug that can treat and even reverse the ravages of Alzheimer's. This could be the most important advance in medical science for many years. Research takes money, however, and Dr. Hawke argues that the money Harry Jenkins intended to be raised legally, and was specifically for Alzheimer's research. Harry Jenkins must also deal with the distraught widow of his dead comrade. Dorothy Crawford is convinced that her husband Richard was poisoned, and fatal stroke, was simply the result. And the murderer is someone who just knows that the first 'P'
According to one is a cracking read, to call a page turner not do it justice. What I really liked was that even through it is part of a trilogy that exists by itself. It is not necessary to have read the previous books to understand the plot or the characters involved. The characters are well developed and rich in texture.
The story moves from Toronto to Vienna, to London, each step becomes more dangerous for Harry.
This is an interesting book and operates in several different levels. This is not your standard-setting action, adventure, and by any stretch of the imagination. One of the subplots involves sex, well actually not quite true, it comes to sexuality, and certainly is reflection.
Maybe a trilogy is the ideal number of books to work a character, then go ahead. Even famous best selling authors have fallen into the trap of using a character, an example is the author Tom Clancy who worked his character Jack Ryan, until it became a joke. Mary Martin has done that, in fact I'm sure she could use a couple more times. Certainly, if she was, I would be giving serious thought to it.
This is a great book, and you can get your own copy from Amazon, there is also an interesting website, The Osgoode Trilogy, support for the trilogy.

Murder in the Bastille $14 "Cara Black books are good companions, and Murder in the Bastille especially so. Fine characters, good suspense, but, best of all, they are transcendentally, seductively, irresistibly French. If you can’t go, these will do fine. Or, better, go and bring them with you."—Alan Furst "Charming. . . . Aimée is one of those blithe spirits who can walk you through the city’s historical streets and byways with their eyes closed."—Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times Book Review "Paris is one of my favorite cities in all the world; Black’s books are a fine way to revisit it."— New Orleans Times-Picayune "Black’s fourth is her best yet, with complex, appealing characters, a crisp, well-paced mystery, and a setting like no other."— Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Aimée Leduc is all dressed up in her new Chinese silk jacket, supposedly an "exclusive," for dinner with a difficult client at an elegant restaurant in the Bastille district. She is chagrined to see that the woman seated at the very next table is wearing an identical jacket. When the woman leaves her cell phone on the table, Aimée follows her to return it and is attacked in the shadowy Passage Boule Blanche. When she regains consciousness, Aimée finds that she is blind. Nevertheless, she is told she is lucky; the woman she was following was found in the next passage, murdered. Aimée is determined to identify her attacker. Was he actually a serial killer targeting showy blondes as the police insist? Was he really after the other woman? Or was Aimée his intended victim? Cara Black lives in San Francisco with her husband, a bookseller, and her son. She is the author of Murder in Belleville and Murder in the Marais , published by Soho Press. Murder in the Sentier was a San Francisco Chronicle bestseller and has been nominated for an Anthony Award for Best Novel. Mayhem, Mystery and Murder $9.95 Back when I was a kid growing up in South Chicago, I never dreamed that having a Lebanese father and a Syrian mother would turn out to be an asset. But my ancestry paid off big-time when I sat down across from Timothy Fisher at a San Francisco sidewalk cafe on that warm September morning. He bought my cover as a Mid-East terroristhook, line and sinker. Of course, being an FBI agent, I’d been provided with excellent cover. Even so, he was nervous and kept looking around at our neighbors, the only ones at the time being a young couple who, hands across their table, were obviously and hopelessly in love. I’ve got the money, I told him, assuming that might help to calm him down. It didn’t. He kept scanning the street. I’m not interested, he said. And that surprised me. What he said next surprised me even more Over 50! mystery short stories by John Broussard, a prolific and compelling writer. Mystery $13.99 Few know the city of Los Angeles the way #1 bestselling author and acclaimed suspense master Jonathan Kellerman does. His thrilling novels of psychological drama and criminal detection make the capital of dreams a living, breathing character in all its glamour and infamy. That storied history of fame, seduction, scandal, and murder looms large in Mystery , as Alex Delaware finds himself drawn into a twisting, shadowy whodunit that’s pure L.A. noir—and vintage Kellerman. The closing of their favorite romantic rendezvous, the Fauborg Hotel in Beverly Hills, is a sad occasion for longtime patrons Alex Delaware and Robin Castagna. And gathering one last time with their fellow faithful habitués for cocktails in the gracious old venue makes for a bittersweet evening. But even more poignant is a striking young woman—alone and enigmatic among the revelers—waiting in vain in elegant attire and dark glasses that do nothing to conceal her melancholy. Alex can’t help wondering what her story is, and whether she’s connected to the silent, black-suited bodyguard lingering outside the hotel. Two days later, Alex has even more to contemplate when police detective Milo Sturgis comes seeking his psychologist comrade’s insights about a grisly homicide. To Alex’s shock, the brutalized victim is the same beautiful woman whose lonely hours sipping champagne at the Fauborg may have been her last. But with a mutilated body and no DNA match, she remains as mysterious in death as she seemed in life. And even when a tipster’s sordid revelation finally cracks the case open, the dark secrets that spill out could make Alex and Milo’s best efforts to close this horrific crime not just impossible but fatal.
