What is a good book that I read for school?

I am in a better class of sales in the school and we have to choose one book to read. you have to be on a bestseller list and I have no idea what to read. I love the twilight series and I also read detective novels and the like, but I want to try something different. What do you suggest and could give a brief description? Thank you.

The Kite Runner! its been in the bestseller list for some years, on his way to become a classic. no lie. The Kite Runner is a child growing up in Kabul and later in the United States. its very good, and rapid pace. I recommend it, its one of Khaled Hosseini, hes a great writer. there was actually a point in the book I was so angry he had to leave. haha you know that's a good writer when you can convey that emotion so only through the written word!
