Create Your Own Romantic story
As some of the most famous romantic stories show, taking inspiration from some world renowned love stories could help you to inject a little sparkle into your own amorous adventures.
Some of the better known love stories from history are told through the plays of William Shakespeare. Antony and Cleopatra’s tragic love affair is a story that’s known the world round and was also one of Shakespeare best known works.
If plays are more your passion then why not go and see one with that special someone and make a romantic evening of it? In most towns and cities you will generally find restaurants that offer pre-theatre menus, so you could go out for a romantic meal before taking in a play – and all without breaking the bank.
It is good to know that there are many different types of plays available to suit every taste. Many of the major works of poet Geoffrey Chaucer – which include medieval English romances, with The Knight’s Tale being one of the best known – have been made into theatre productions. Chaucer’s tales are still popular productions, so get yourself to your local theatre if you fancy catching a show.
jane austen was another pivotal romance writer who brought the stories of pride and prejudice and Emma to life. Other classic romance stories include A Room with a View by E. M. Forster, Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy and Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. However, there are hundreds more to explore so if you’re in the mood for love then immersing yourself in one of the classics can prove very rewarding.
If modern romance stories are more your thing then you will find an abundance of contemporary authors to choose from. Furthermore, watching the film version of any well known love story can be a fun thing to do with your partner, and the huge choice on offer means all tastes are catered for. Several of Shakespeare’s plays have been adapted for the big screen, so if you don’t fancy reading the book then watching the movie may be a good alternative.
Some of the better known romantic movies from the 1930s to 1970s include Brief Encounter, David Lean’s adaptation of a Noël Coward play, Jules et Jim, François Truffaut’s adaptation of Henri-Pierre Roché’s novel and Casablanca where Bogart and Bergman are at their finest. From the 1980s onwards, more modern romantic films include Lost in Translation, Dirty Dancing and Titanic, to name just a few. Romantic comedies and dramas are all possible genres to investigate so whatever you fancy you should be able to find a movie that fits the bill.
If you don’t have a special sweetheart to enjoy a romantic movie with then get yourself back on the dating scene and find a likeminded film fanatic or book enthusiast to share the fun with. Whether you choose to meet someone via online dating or simply pluck up the courage to talk to the cutie next door, you could be creating your own romance story in no time.

Maxie [VHS] $19.98 After establishing her screen career with supporting roles in The Big Chill and The Natural, Glenn Close made her starring debut in the title role of this tepid comedy–an example of the “body-switch” movie trend of the mid-1980s. No doubt Close sensed tour-de-force potential in playing a virtuous San Francisco wife and Catholic bishop’s secretary whose body is possessed by the vampy spirit of a 1… |

Antony and Cleopatra Charlton Heston worked very hard in “Anthony and Cleopatra” an adaptation of Shakespeare scripted by himself. Heston is the director too, and the movie is a wonderful experience of filmmaking, a true labour of love, with some fault, perhaps, but full of energetic sequences. a story of love, passion and death. Heston knows very well the Shakespeare original, and he express in the screen all the str… |
