Mike Hammer cons Sherlock Holmes
Last year, Robert Downey, Jr. starred in a film version of Sherlock Holmes news was proved to be a big enough success all around. With Jude Law playing Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes was off on another adventure that would add to his legacy continues. Billed greatest detective in the world, the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has stood the test of time as a superhero English classics that always seems to win Ween desperate circumstances. Where there is no idea, he scratches up from nowhere and his genius to solve crimes like no other. However, while clearly Sherlock Holmes is probably the most well-known literary detective of the past and present There was also another who, in his first if not more popular then just as popular as Sherlock himself, and who was Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer.
Mickey Spillane Mike Hammer created long ago, when he used to write for a business comic book that would be Marvel Comics. At first it was called Dick Danger and he tried to sell it as an action comedy being at that time there was not comics superhero he is today. This project has failed if, after a few adjustments and a change of name, Mike Hammer hit store shelves and almost overnight became a sensation. This tradition of hard detective pulp galvanized all male America. Strong, intelligent, and always ready for action, Mike Hammer is the quintessential man's man who did not take shit off anyone and was always ready to back it up with his fists or his gun. In its heyday Mike Hammer was the most popular novel series in America and spawned several hit movies, even with the author Mickey Spillane in itself. Inevitably, a TV show is out of with Gavin too McDarren held for a few seasons in the late 50s, and another attempt to enter his 80 years with stage actor Stacy Keach in the lead role. While Mike Hammer seemed to disappear from the American consciousness.
I do not know what it means to us in America, where it is so easy to put something old for something new, but it happens often. Sherlock Holmes has been redone and redone and redone several times over the years. Basil Rathbone was the most famous until Jeremy Brett inspiring interpretation of the character of the late '80s and early 90s. Michael Caine has played Sherlock Holmes alongside David Suchet, who played Hercule Poirot in the long running series poirot agatha christie inspired by the character of the same name, and many others that led to Robert Downey, Jr. earlier this year. Until Now, with the exception of the TV series with Stacy Keach, there was not inspired interpretations of Mike Hammer and no effort to make this detective American classic back in the psyche of the American people.
Sitting back I think sometimes why the British and others tend to have a love story with their long-standing classic heroes and we Americans seem to spit it out as fast as we create them. For example, there is no more attempts to make movies of Tarzan, Tarzan and was a franchise running long American who was a sure money-maker. Charlie Chan has disappeared and for years he was one of the most popular characters in American literature and cinema. The Lone Ranger is gone associated with the Green Hornet (there is a movie coming out next year based on that character) and to my knowledge, there has been no attempt to re-create the classic literary invention of none other than Edgar Allen Poe C. August Dupin (which he says was the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, Hercule Poirot) in the classic story The Murders in the Rue Morgue, where the murderer is a monkey trained to kill. Wondering if this is the nature of our American film and literary scene or the desire for new writers and new producers to push their own ideas leaves no room for the interpretation of our most classic American characters. Eitherway is indeed a shame because I fail to see these characters in film and there no real reason why they should have simply abandoned apparently forever.
In conclusion, it is my hope that people re-discover these stories American and classic characters and began to print books and make movies about them again. We must maintain a close with some of the things our past to help us chart our course for the future. We grow old together by the grace of God and think the message we are sending the young generation here in America that once you're old, you are no longer relevant. The English do not agree with this, neither the Japanese nor the Chinese, or even French. Appreciation for those who came before us does ensure that their legacies will maintaiin their relevance and only grow in value in years to come. Imagine how the original manuscript of Sherlock Holmes is useful? What is the first project of Mike Hammer? How much worth?
